A termite shield is a type of flashing that prevents termites from traveling up masonry foundations and into wood framing. Termite shield is usually fabricated by rolling out aluminum flashing that is 2 inches wider than the foundation wall and beated down with a mallet to bend over the edges. When another peice of termite flashing is needed, it is usally overlapped by 1′ and sealed with a bead of caulk between layers.
